Billy Backe

Billy Backe is a groundhog and naturally he loves marbles (the German words for marbles and groundhog are nearly identical). Billy lives in Walle-Wacke Land with 39 friends and relatives. They all experience many exciting adventures on their journeys through the colorful forest, across the canyon of sharp teeth, through the dusty prairie, past the white sea, across the quicksand plain, over the Devil's Gorge, through the wild meadow valley, over the windy hills, and on to the black river. Polly Posthörnchen, the Schrönk, Billy the Kid, Rosa the dwarf horse, Horst-Dieter the hazelnut tree, Jimbo, and the fighting diaper all stick together and have great ideas and wit and courage – and at the end they also find out what the heck a Schrönk actually is.
