Shit, he’s back! King Ubu is a true dictator, populist and demon of our time. A dangerous, self-overestimating prick who celebrates himself without restraint, until the dawn of a new day exposes his devious deeds. As the sole representative of the state and in pursuit of all claimable power, King Ubu viciously demonizes and destroys all of his competitors. Since the people hunger for simple truths, they blindly cheer, dance and join in Ubu’s orgy, until the bitter realization kicks in that they are abolishing themselves and the state completely. In 1896 Alfred Jarry’s “Ubu Roi” went on stage for the first time. Now we see him almost daily on our worldwide news channels. With this production the Ramba-Zamba Ensemble examines King Ubu’s grotesque rush of power and his fantasy of boundless freedom.

PRESSESTIMMEN
