Hi Freaks: Lars Eidinger with Hans-Jörn Brandenburg
A Musical-Scenic Reading from Bertolt Brecht’s Poetry Collection Hauspostille
Actor and DJ Lars Eidinger and the RZt invite audiences to a reading followed by a DJ set!
The evening begins with fascinating abysses. Accompanied musically by composer and musician Hans-Jörn Brandenburg, the renowned actor Lars Eidinger sings, performs, and reads from Bertolt Brecht’s poetry collection Hauspostille (1916–1925). In so-called “supplicatory hymns,” “spiritual exercises,” and “psalms,” Brecht stylistically draws on Christian sermon traditions while moving between punk-like humor and a serious reflection on transience and decay.
In one poem, a woman rots in a river, overgrown with seaweed and algae until even God forgets her. In another, Baal wanders calmly beneath a young, naked, and wonderfully monstrous sky, full of glorious vices — only to devour that sky shortly afterward. How beautiful evil can be! Praise be to heaven and its poor memory, Brecht writes, because it does not remember us, and he reminds us:
No one knows that you are still there.
Praise the cold, the darkness, and decay!
Look upward:
It does not depend on you,
And you may die without concern.
After Hauspostille, everyone is invited to dance together. DJ Lars Eidinger, joined by support act and RZt ensemble member Franziska Kleinert — known from the DJ duo Fränzi & Fränzi — will play late into the night as part of the legendary Anti Disco party series.
Hi Freaks is a benefit event series by RZt. For more than 30 years, actors with disabilities have collaborated with renowned guests from the German cultural scene to create wild and exciting theatre experiences. Old and new friends of the theatre are invited to read, perform, or make music together with the ensemble. The proceeds support the theatre’s infrastructure as well as the training of new performers.
